Michael Abernathy
Michael, owner of Michael and Company Salon, has been in this business for 22 years. He loves the relationships with his clients; one on one, face to face in the chair and enabling them to walk out of the salon feeling better about themselves. Michael graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in finance and management and then decided to pursue a more creative career. He believes the salon shouldn’t be a place of intimidation and that it should provide clients with peace of mind in this one little corner of their world. He strives to provide an environment that is fun, relaxed, consistent and quality based. Outside of the salon, Michael enjoys cooking, music and travel. He enjoys all music (except for heavy metal) and Paris, New York and San Francisco are three of his favorite places. Michael lives in Cincinnati with his partner of 10 years, Emerson and their very spoiled dog Sadie.
Diane Simpson
Diane has worked alongside Michael for 20 of her 28 years in the beauty profession. She has a passion for the science and psychology of hair and strives to make every client feel special. In her spare time Diane enjoys reading, gardening, keeping up with her children and working out -- outside and at the gym. She has been married for 21 years to her husband, Chris and lives in Cincinnati with her three teenage daughters: Abby, Jillian, and Amanda. Her two eldest daughters will be following in her footsteps and enrolling in the Aveda Institute in the coming year.
Mary Strotman
Mary has worked for Michael and Company for seven years and as a stylist for 13 years. She loves to cut hair and foil, and is especially talented at special occasion up-dos. She is an open, honest and caring person who gives the same treatment to the person in her chair as she would in her home. Outside of the salon, she enjoys fun activities with her kids, including neighborhood get togethers, summertime at the swim club, trips to the state park to go paddle boating and going to the pumpkin patch. Mary lives in Cincinnati and has three sons: Hayden, twins Alex and Jared and a dog, Butch.
Diane Remley
Diane has worked as a stylist for 28 years, 13 of those with Michael. She is a particularly talented colorist, but there isn’t anything she doesn’t like to do. Diane has developed a love for travel that has lead her and her husband, Joe, to their current affinity for Branson, Missouri. She loves everything from the drive down, to the piece of property they have invested in, to their favorite show, Bob Anderson, a retired Vegas act with an amazing voice. The older Diane gets, the more she enjoys being around people that are fun and happy, she says that now is her time for peace and fun. She and Joe live in Cincinnati and have been married for 21 years and they have two dogs, Nikki and Rosey.
Caroline West
Caroline has worked with hair for 19 years, 14 ½ of those with Michael. She is a certified Master Colorist and loves to color hair. She is naturally drawn to Aveda’s natural products and health conscience mentality because that is the way she lives her life. Caroline describes herself as active and self-motivated and enjoys hiking, camping and working out at the gym. She believes that there’s nothing a person can’t do and always puts herself up to new challenges. “Hiking is a real challenge, it’s good for your soul. When you reach the top of a mountain, you feel like you conquered the world. That translates to your outside as well.” Caroline lives in Cincinnati with her husband Tom and their new puppy Sally.
Marie Dickerson
Marie has been with Michael for two and a half years and worked in a salon for six years. She’s a native of Cincinnati and has been a Bengal’s fan since a very young age. When not at the salon she likes to spend time with her family and friends, and is an avid moviegoer. She and her husband Alan have been married for a year, have a 7-year-old bulldog, Jada and are expecting their first child. Marie believes you should “do what you love.”
Amanda Simpson
No you're not seeing double. Amanda is a second-generation Michael and Company team member, the daughter of longtime stylist Diane Simpson. She is Michael and Company's new esthetician specializing in helping you discover your skin's potential in a relaxing and restorative environment. She is a licensed esthetician and is currently working on her cosmetology license at the Aveda Institute of Cincinnati. While not in school or at the salon, Amanda enjoys spending time with her friends and watching the Cincinnati Bengals.
Lori Wilson
Lori has worked for Michael as a part-time receptionist and make-up artist for six years. She does both consultations and applications and specializes in weddings, homecoming and proms. In her free time Lori volunteers weekly at the Maddux Elementary School, helping with everything from tutoring kids to holiday parties. She spends most of her time with her son Connor by taking him to soccer or on boating trips in the summer to places like Norris and Cumberland lakes. Lori lives in Cincinnati with her husband Tim and has been married for two years.
Sarah Caudill
Sarah has been Michael’s assistant for three of the six years she has spent working in salons. She is a certified color specialist and loves meeting new people. In her free time Sarah loves being active with her two daughters, Kayli and Emma. They enjoy all types of outdoor activities including hiking. She and her husband, Jeff, have been married for five years and love to see movies and shop together. Sarah believes that “If I’m spending one minute of my life being unhappy, then I’m wasting my life.”
Jennifer Hartman-Williams
Jennifer has been a nationally certified and state licensed massage therapist for ten years, two of them with Michael. Her passion in massage is making a difference in her client’s lives. Much of the work she does is medically based, therapeutic massage, and many of her clients come as referrals from area doctors. She works on a variety of injuries, including those from car accidents, falls and sports related injuries, in addition to clients suffering from fibromyalgia. Jennifer uses hot stones in her deep tissue work and also has a special pregnancy massage. Outside of the salon, she enjoys spending time with her two children, Hart and Cole, at the Cincinnati Zoo, aquarium, park and swimming pool and traveling with her partner, Cindy. Jennifer graduated from Wright State University with a degree in dance and theater, and continued on to SHI Massage School in Lebanon, OH.
Michele Mikulski
Michele is a stylist at Michael and Company and has worked with Michael for two years. After graduating from the Åveda Frederic's Institute in Cincinnati, Michele has developed a passion for working with color. She particularly enjoys satisfying the clients that are looking to make big changes with their hair. When Michele is not in the salon, she likes spending time outside with her friends, especially during the summer. She enjoys going to all types of sporting events and describes herself as an outgoing and energetic person.
Vicki Wilzbach
After working at the same barbershop for 20 of her 24 years in the hair industry, Vicki has recently joined Michael and Company Salon. Her specialty is in men’s hairstyling, but women make up 20% of her clientele. She notes her main challenge as a barber comes from the consistency that men require in their hairstyles. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Vicki enjoys spending her time outside of the salon with her family. She has two children with her partner Mary: a 10-year-old son, Tyler, and a baby girl due in August. She also enjoys playing with her two Yorkshire terriers, Taffy and Harrison. As far as making the leap from barbershop to hair salon, Vicki claims, “I like it more and more every day.”
Tony Rice
With 24 years of hair experience, Tony may be new to Michael and Company, but he is a proven professional in the hair industry. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Tony owned a salon in Hyde Park before becoming an educator at the Aveda Institute in St. Petersburg, FL. He says he loved teaching about hair care because he learned as much from the students as they learned from him. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, the theatre, and spending time with friends and family. Tony is happy to be back in Cincinnati and at Michael’s salon but says he misses the one thing Cincinnati can’t offer…the beach!
